Notable Characters

This page is about people, who were generally resident in Stewkley, that are "worthy of some note".
They may have been a "character in their own right" or have "been part of a tale that has been remembered", they may be a village tradesperson, remembered fondly by "now grown-up" children.

For now we have a short list, the SLHG will be forming a sub-committee to decide what information will be placed on this page, and if this suggested page should continue to be visible on the site.

On an earlier version of this page, your webmaster has been perhaps too flippant in asking the question "Who was Dodi Quack" he had heard a story about a man in Stewkley that had accidently changed the colour of his dog. (It seems Dodi had a bath containing blue dye - presumably for dying fabric- the dog jumped up and fell in, it was something that would be talked about for years - perhaps the sub-committe will give us an idea of how long ago this might have happened - would it be more than 100 years has passed ?

Someone has written in and mentioned Bertie Mead. I shall ask members if they have any photos of Bertie.
Meanwhile, you can see a picture of him by clicking here to visit Bucks County Council's Photolibrary please note that your use of library images is subject to terms and conditions, normally you would see this and more by visiting their Buckinghamshire Photographs page
